Printing tips
What the defaults assume, and how to get clean multicolor prints.
- The defaults assume a 0.4 mm nozzle and 0.2 mm layers. Roads stand 0.6 mm tall and parks 0.4 mm, so each is a whole number of layers.
- Roads are at least 0.45 mm wide, about the narrowest line a 0.4 mm nozzle prints well. Anything thinner, like small text, may not print, and the editor warns about it.
- Every color is one filament, and each layer with a color in it needs a filament change. Fewer colors print faster and waste less.
- Water prints as a 1 mm layer on a floor of terrain, so its color only starts near the top. That's five 0.2 mm layers.
- With more colors than the AMS holds, print the water on its own plates. The model then needs one color fewer.
- Most models print without supports. Bridges are the exception, so let the slicer add supports only where it finds them. Building parts mapped above the ground, like overhangs, are built down to it unless that's turned off under Buildings.
- A multicolor print needs room on the bed for the prime tower, where the printer cleans the nozzle between colors. The fit button under Size, like Fit the P1S bed, leaves room for it, and Bambu Studio projects come with it placed. On an X1 or P1, the front left corner is kept clear for the filament cutter too.
- Recalculate the purging volumes in the slicer after picking the filaments. Too little purge after a dark color leaves streaks in the light parts.
- A thicker Base thickness under Model makes a stiffer print.
Faster models and smaller files
- Turn Trees off, or lower Maximum trees. Trees add a lot of triangles and slicing time.
- Keep terrain Resolution at Medium for cities. High and Extra high are for hills and mountains.
- Hide unneeded parts in the 3D view. They're not included in the download.
