Edit a route on the map

Move points, follow the streets, trim the ends, or draw a new route.

Click the pencil next to a route under Routes to edit it, or Draw a route to start a new one. The route gets handles on its points, and a card beside the map holds the tools. The area box is locked until the card is closed.

Move points

Follow roads

With Follow roads on (the default), a point that's moved or drawn goes onto the nearest road or path, and the route follows the roads to the points either side. Hold Alt to put a point anywhere.

Snap distance sets how far from a road a point can be and still go onto it. Raise it for a wobbly recording. Lower it where a path runs right beside a road, so points don't jump to the wrong one.

Roads are loaded for the area and 300 m around it, so further out, points stay where they're placed. Areas over 20 km across don't load roads at all.

Draw

Pick Draw (D) and click along the way. Each click extends the route from its finish. Select the start first to add to that end instead. Double-click, press Enter, or press Finish to stop.

Change a section

  1. Click a point to select it.
  2. Shift-click a second point, or press Pick a section and click it.
  3. Press Snap to roads, Straighten, or Cut out. Cutting out the middle leaves a gap. Cutting at an end trims the route.

Change the whole route

Snap to roads
Moves the whole route onto the roads it runs along.
Trim start, Trim finish
Take a distance off either end, to hide where a run starts, like a home address.
Reverse
Swaps the start and the finish.
Back to start
Joins the finish back to the start.
Undo all changes
Puts the route back as it was before the first edit since the page was opened.

Every change is one step for Ctrl+Z. When done, close the card with its X, or press Esc until it closes, since each press goes back one step. The keys are under Keyboard shortcuts.

When the model is generated, routes are snapped to the roads again if Snap to roads is on under Routes. Turn that off to print a route exactly as drawn.
