Save, share, and settings files
What this browser keeps, how share links work, and saving settings to a file.
Kept in this browser
The area, settings, colors, routes, and edits are saved in this browser as they change, and are loaded again next time. The model itself isn't saved, so press Generate model again after a reload. Downloaded map data is kept too, so a model builds faster the second time.
Nothing is saved anywhere else. To carry on in another browser or on another computer, use a share link or a settings file.
Share a link
Share, at the top of the page and under Area, copies a link that opens this area with the same settings, colors, and export options, and the routes and edits on it.
- Opening someone's link replaces the settings in this browser with theirs, and a message offers Undo. Their routes and edits are added to the ones already here, never in place of them.
- Changes to buildings, roads and water are only included in a link once a model of exactly this area has been generated, since they're tied to that model.
- Only shown routes are included, cut off a little past the area, so a run from home doesn't show where home is. Edits made on other areas aren't included.
- Long routes are simplified to fit. If there's still too much, the link leaves the routes or edits out and says so. Use a settings file instead.
- The address bar only holds the area. Use Share for the whole link.
Settings files
At the bottom of the sidebar, Save settings downloads every setting, color, and export option as a JSON file. Load settings loads one back, as one undo step. Dropping a settings file on the page does the same.
- Include map area
- On by default. Saves and loads the area too, with the routes on it. Untick it to use the settings somewhere else.
- Include edits
- Off by default, and needs Include map area on. Adds the 3D edits. They're kept for every area, so all of them are included, not only this area's.
With Include map area on, loading a file adds its routes to the existing ones, and its edits too if Include edits is on. If it changed any edits, a note offers to put the earlier ones back.
Reset, beside Search settings at the top of the sidebar, puts the settings, colors, and export options back to their defaults, as one undo step. Reset all settings, at the bottom of the sidebar, also resets the print's size, the printer, and the file format. Layers has what each keeps.
Install as an app
In Chrome, Edge, and on Android, the site offers to install itself as an app once a model has been generated. On an iPhone or iPad, tap Share and then Add to Home Screen. The app opens without a connection, but generating a model needs one.
When a new version is out, a notice asks for a reload. It never reloads on its own.
With the app open in two tabs, edits and routes made in one show up in the other. Each tab keeps its own area and settings until it's reloaded.
